Wrist malas

Wrist malas (meditation rosaries) make a very practical alternative to the traditional 108-bead mala, which usually has to be wrapped around the wrist three times if it is to be worn there, rather than around the neck. Wrist malas generally have 27 beads, plus a guru bead, meaning that it can be counted four times when reciting mantras in order to mark off 108 repetitions. Some wrist malas have fewer beads, however.
