Mani Stone with Carved and Painted Om Mani Padme Hum Mantra

The mani stone is a traditional Tibetan way of showing devotion. Placed on shines and on mountain passes, they are thought to confer blessings.

This mani stone can be placed on an altar, or used as a household or garden decoration, to remind you of your spiritual ideals.

This carved and painted river stone bears the mantra of the Bodhisattva of compassion, Avalokiteshvara, known in Tibet as Chenrezig, and in China as Guan-Yin.

The mantra Om Mani Padme Hum invokes an ancient name for Avalokiteshvara, Manipadma, which means the Lotus Jewel One. The name is framed by the sacred syllables OM, representing the quality of enlightenment immanent in the universe, and HUM, representing that quality as embodied as us. The mantra thus signifies that what allows enlightenment (OM) to manifest in us (HUM) is meditating on the Bodhisattva Avalokiteshvara (Manipadme) by constantly chanting his name.
